The values in the western world dictates that women who stay at home and look after their husbands and children are missing out on a career and a life. A married woman who stays at home to raise her children is given a great deal of respect and is certainly not looked down upon as is so often done in other societies. In fact if a woman is not married by the time she is 25 she is seen as a failure and people around her may think that there is something wrong with her.
The reason for this arrangement is that women truly believe that it is the role of the man to go out and work whilst the woman should provide a warm, supportive and loving home. It is seen as a fair division of labor. Keeping her house and family running smoothly is hard work. The modern conveniences that most people in the western world take for granted are not as plentifully available in Russia.
One of the main factors in any Russian family is dependence. The Russian family is a very strong unit and it is normal for a woman to rely on her husband for financial security. This theme may have something to do with the living arrangements for many families. It is not uncommon for a large family of 3 generations to live in only a few rooms. This fact promotes cooperation, reliance and dependence as these are essential qualities when a family is living in such close proximity.
Russian women tend to be resourceful. Years of difficulties and struggle have made them very good at being patient but determined and finding ways around the most apparently insurmountable problems. Russian husbands often think that they have cleverly solved a problem when really it was their wives that masterminded the whole thing.
The stereotype of Russian women as beautiful, but stupid, is clearly untrue. With their intelligence, work ethic and attitude to family it is no surprise that more and more men are going to Russia to find their dream bride.
